Day 2: Sunday May 9, 2015 - Mother's Day, Set-Up and Pin Trading Day

Happy Mother's Day to All

Last night, all of our students were reminded to call their Mothers.  I hope they did not disappoint.

A beautiful sunny morning at 19’C greeted us for Day 2.  Thank goodness for AC ... it's going to be a sunny 32'C by midday.  Downtown Pittsburgh on a Sunday morning is virtually closed ... no breakfast restaurant nearby so we resorted to breakfast at the Hotel. At $20 per person .... ouch!  Sorry Eleanor, Cathy has the receipts.

Well fed, we all prepared for the walk to the Convention Centre to start the project set-ups.  As usual, there was a range of complicated project set-ups (eg., Aditya and Duncan that took the whole day to our own Catherine who rolled up her banner in less than an hour.)

Set-up proceeded smoothly and with many of the new backboards using the printed banner roll-ups, problems of years past were virtually non-existent .

Guess what we had for lunch .... SUBWAYS again!  But Cathy did deliver mine.

By 4:30 pm, all of the projects were up and safetied.  As we finished, Team Montreal with chaperones Jessica and Heather arrived with  returnee finalists from 2014, Eunice and Wilfred and newcomers, Melissa and Thomas.  They decided not to set up on Sunday and we all headed back to the Westin. Team Canada IISEF was now complete and together in their best Canada reds, they all proceeded to the Wyndham hotel for the all famous Pin Trading event.

Two years ago, our own BASEF Calvin started the tradition of our caped Captain Canada.  This year there was no shortage of caped Canadians.  Our seas of Red was obvious and I would argue we are group by the many other countries wanting to have their pictures with us.

TEAM CANADA WAS DEFINITELY VERY SPIRITED!

After dropping the crew at the Pin Trading event, the chaperones got together and had dinner at the Sienna Mercato, an Italian reastaurant with the whole main menu being meatballs.  Pretty tasty ...

By 9:30 pm, everyone was back at the hotel and curfew was set for 11 pm.   Everyone was advised that breakfast would be 8:30 am the next day.
